* Tonight marked UAB's fourth home game of the season and its third in the last four games. The Blazers have a 2-2 record at Legion Field this year.
* Tonight's meeting was the eighth between Southern Miss and UAB. The Golden Eagles came into the game having won all seven previous matchups, though each has been tightly contested. Five of the previous seven meetings had been decided by five points or less.
* Senior FB David Sigler saw action after missing the past two games due to an injury suffered during the Tulane game on Oct. 13.
* When Swayze Waters missed a 54-yard field goal in the second quarter, it was his first miss from 50 yards and beyond this season. He was previously 3-for-3 from 50-plus yards.
* Tonight was the first game this season that Swayze Waters has not made a field goal.
* Sam Hunt hooked up with Sylvester Mencer for a 32-yard touchdown pass with 5:46 remaining in the third quarter. The touchdown marked the first TD reception for Mencer this season and the fourth of his career. It was also the ninth touchdown pass for Hunt this season. Hunt has now thrown for a touchdown in all but one of UAB's nine games.
* Sylvester Mencer caught a season-high four passes for 65 yards in the game.
* In the fourth quarter, freshman Brock Ferguson recorded his first career fumble recovery.
* UAB was held below 100 yards rushing for the fourth time this season.
* UAB closes out its home schedule next Saturday as the Blazers play host to C-USA and East Division foe UCF at Legion Field. The game is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CT and will be televised nationally by CSTV.
