Blazers Open Conference USA Schedule Friday At Memphis

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB women's soccer team will begin the Conference USA portion of its 2007 schedule on Friday evening when it faces Memphis at 7:00 p.m. at the Mike Rose Soccer Complex in Memphis, Tenn.
UAB, who is led by 12th-year head coach Paul Harbin, posted a 4-4-1 record during non-conference play and is trying to get back on the winning track after most recently dropping a 3-0 match at Evansville last Friday.
Four Blazers have found the back of the net this season, led by sophomore forward Danya Barsalona with three goals. Senior forward Sally Palmer and freshman midfielder Justine Hartigan have racked up two goals each, while junior midfielder Nadine Liverpool has scored once this season.
Memphis has recorded a 7-2 mark on the campaign, including a current winning streak of five games with its latest win over Missouri State, 2-0, on Sept. 30. The Tigers are also a perfect 7-0 at home this year.
Memphis is guided by eighth-year head coach Brooks Monaghan, who has posted a 69-67-8 record during her tenure with the Tigers.
Pacing the Memphis offense this season is freshman forward Melissa Smith and junior midfielder Harumi Someya with five goals each. Junior forward Kylie Hayes and freshman forward Vendula Strnadova have added four goals apiece to the Tigers' efforts.
The Blazers and the Tigers have met on 13 previous occasions, with UAB leading the all-time series 8-4-1. The last meeting between the two schools resulted in a 0-0 tie with UAB winning in penalty kicks in the 2006 Conference USA tournament semi-finals.
The match will be aired by CSTV on tape delay on Sunday at 7:00 p.m. CT.
