Volleyball Shuts Out UCF Friday Night

ORLANDO, Fla. - The UAB volleyball team hit a combined .330 to help earn a 3-0 (30-19, 30-26, 30-15) victory at UCF Friday night. Senior Fernanda Domingos led the Blazers with 12 kills on .800 hitting, while junior Casey Dent also had 12 kills and hit .429. UAB improves to 18-7 (8-3 C-USA) with the win.
Domingos did not commit a single error on 15 attempts.
UCF falls to 9-17 (0-11 C-USA) with the loss.
"I'm really pleased with both our offensive and defensive effort tonight," said head coach Kerry Messersmith. "Fernanda was very consistent tonight, they really had a hard time stopping her."
Junior Aleksandra Vujovic finished with a match-high 16 digs to go with eight kills, while senior Brianna Galvin was also strong on the defensive end, finishing with 12 digs.
Senior Shaniquwa Cooper was active Friday night as well, posting seven kills on .467 hitting to go with four blocks.
On a night the Blazer hit .330, one of the highest three-game clips of the season, junior Nevena Stefanov finished with 37 assists and three kills.
"This was one of our better passing matches of the season," Messersmith said. "We communicated a lot better tonight and our emotion was much better. The girls went out and had fun and kept their intensity level up. This was a good win for us to get."
Senior Nicole Bowland added eight digs in the defensive effort.
UCF was paced by Stephanie Serna who finished with 11 kills on .400 hitting.
The Blazers will be back in action on Sunday when they travel to play Southern Miss at 1:00 p.m.
