UAB Head Coach Neil Callaway
On the game:
"I hate that it came down to the end like that, but it was good to see our guys compete. We talked about needing to finish a ball game. I think we got in some situations tonight there at the end that were good for us to get in and come out victorious and we're very happy with the win."
On the kickoff return:
"I think if you look at it, I thought it was huge. But I think our kicking game was the difference in the ball game even though Swayze [Waters] didn't have a good night obviously -- missing a field goal and an extra point."
On the offensive line:
"We struggled. We couldn't run the ball very well. We are young up there, we've had some injury problems. We've got to be able to run the football better."
On the defense's performance:
"The key to the game was if our defensive line could play in their backfield. In the first, half we didn't do that. The second half, I thought they came back and responded a lot better and made some things happen."
On getting the win:
"I think our program is at a point where people are saying good things because guys are doing the right things and trying hard. But it seems to me that there's a lot of enthusiasm right now at UAB. There are a lot of positive things going on. I felt like we needed to do something for our fans. Winning this ballgame will help that and give fans something to hold on to."
On Houston next week:
"I know offensively they have great team speed, they have some receivers that can fly and they do an excellent job throwing the football."
On Callaway's first conference win:
"I think it's nice, but I'm more excited for our players and our fans to be honest with you. But it is nice; those guys really deserve it -- both our players and fans. I'm a lot more excited and happy for them."
On Tulane's running back Matt Forte:
"I think he's as good as there is in the country, maybe not as good as the boy from Arkansas [Darren McFadden]. I hope we don't play anyone better than him. I think he's an excellent running back."
Quarterback Sam Hunt
On getting the win:
"We're really excited. You could probably hear us in the locker room over there and hear how pumped up we were. This was a must win for us and we're excited to be 1-1 in the conference now."
On the Tulane deep pass attempt on 4th and 20 with the game winding down:
"There have been games where I've seen things happen with big plays like that to win games, so it's a scary situation to be in - watching on the sidelines when you don't have any control over the situation. We were confident in our defense though and knew they would pull it out."
On not being sacked:
"The offensive line has done a really good job and the receivers have done a really good job in being where they are supposed to be so I've been able to get the ball out within a couple of seconds and take some pressure off those tackles. Everyone has done a great job."
On having Joseph Webb back:
"With his knee, he didn't work at receiver a whole lot this week, but he came in here tonight without a whole lot of practice and didn't miss a beat."
On freshmen receivers:
"At this point, I don't even think of them as freshmen anymore because they've been making plays every week. Frantrell (Forrest) had some amazing catches this week and I have all the confidence in the world in those freshmen guys."
Cornerback Brandon Carlisle
On how much he expected to play against Tulane:
"We as corners really all play about 80 plays in a game. One may have 75 and one may play 90, but we all play about the same amount."
On getting the win:
"There's no better feeling than winning. All the hard work during the week that we put in - winning accounts for all of that."
On going against Tulane running back Matt Forte:
"He's a big back. We as corners had to stay disciplined because we knew they'd try to run the ball, but we had to stay over top waiting for the pass and then come down when they needed support. He's a good back, but I think the best back we played against was Dickson from Mississippi State."
Linebacker Joe Henderson
On Forte:
"He's tough, he was basically their offense. He's a pretty tough back, he kept his feet moving and ran hard and consistently the whole game, so he was hard to contain.
On his interception:
"I had man-to-man with Forte and I saw him faking like he was going to block and coach is always telling us to watch the screen and the line got a lot of pressure on him and he (Forte) had it (the reception) and I just took it away from him."
On halftime adjustments to contain Forte:
"Like I said, he's a good back. We knew we'd have to gang tackle him because he's tough to bring down by yourself. We knew we'd have to get after him pretty good and we knew in order to get the victory we had to get after him."
Wide receiver Frantrell Forrest
On when he thought he might go all the way on kickoff return:
"I felt like after I beat the kicker, I felt like I was gone."
On whether there was anything specifically designed on kickoff return:
"We saw a film that we though we might have a chance to return to the left. The guys did an excellent job blocking and I saw a crease and I hit it."
On kickoff return answering a Tulane score:
"I just wanted to make a play when that happened. We got down and I told my teammates that if the ball came to me, I would do my best with it and all 10 guys blocked."
