UAB Set To Battle SMU Sunday In C-USA Contest

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB women's basketball team, who is boasting a 7-7 overall record and a 2-0 mark in Conference USA games, will put its unblemished conference record on the line Sunday afternoon when the Mustangs of SMU visit Bartow Arena for a C-USA showdown. UAB and SMU will tip-off at 2 p.m.
Sunday's meeting will mark the third game between the two schools, with the all-time series tied at one-all. SMU won the last matchup with UAB, 54-49, on January 15, 2006 in Dallas, Texas.
UAB has been on a hot streak as of late, going 7-1 in its last eight contests and beginning the new year with a 2-0 league record. Most recently, the Blazers earned a 76-60 victory over defending C-USA champion Tulsa on January 5.
Senior guard Carmen Guzman is leading UAB and Conference USA in scoring with 21.7 ppg. Guzman, who ranks 10th in the nation in scoring, has reached double-digits in all 14 games this season, including 10 contests with 20-plus points.
SMU comes into Sunday's game with an overall record of 10-4 and a 2-0 mark in the league. The Mustangs' latest win came at the expense of Memphis, 97-65, on January 5 in Memphis, Tenn.
SMU is being led by Janielle Dodds with 15.9 ppg, while also grabbing 6.8 boards per game as well. Delisha Wills is tallying a team-high 7.0 rpg and adding 9.8 ppg to SMU's total.
