Team and Individual Results Through Two Rounds
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The University of Alabama carded an even par 576 (288-288) and leads by 11 strokes after two rounds of play at the 2006 Shoal Creek Intercollegiate, hosted by UAB. The Blazers sit 23 strokes back of the Crimson Tide, and enters Tuesday's final 18 holes in 11th overall.
"I was not pleased with the way we played all day," UAB head coach Alan Kaufman said. "The course played tough due to the rain we have had the past couple of days, but we could have played better. We can still make a move up the leaderboard, but we need more consistent play top to bottom."
Central Florida finished the opening two rounds with a 585 (295-290), and two strokes ahead of both Tennessee (290-297) and Florida State (293-294) who finished with a team score of 587. Michigan State (296-293) rounds out the top five, with a 589.
The Blazers were led by senior Garrett Osborn who carded a 145 (71-74) on the par 72, 7,114-yard Shoal Creek Country Club. Osborn, who captured the medalist honors at UAB's fall-opener, the Scenic City Invitational on Sept. 11-12, will enter the final 18 holes tied for fifth overall. Sophomore Zack Sucher carded a 149 (75-74) to sit in a tie for 20th overall. Freshman Adam West shot a pair of 76's to close the opening day at 152, while junior Brad Smith is one stroke back of West with a 153 (76-77). Sophomore Josh Thompson rounds out the Blazers with a 156 (77-79).
Alabama's Gator Todd and Florida State's Matt Savage are tied for the overall lead, after carding a one-under par 141.
Tuesday's third and final round will begin with staggered tee times, with the first group teeing off at 8:15 a.m.
