Osborn Selected As At-Large Participant In NCAA Regional

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Two-time All-Conference USA golfer Garrett Osborn has been selected to participate in the 2006 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championships, the organization announced Monday. Osborn is one of six individuals picked to supplement the field of 27 team participants at the NCAA East Regionals, May 18-20 at the Lake Nona Golf and Country Club in Orlando, Fla.
"This is a very deserved honor for Garrett, who has had another outstanding year for UAB," Blazers head golf coach Alan Kaufman said. "This will be the fifth regional appearance for UAB with Garrett representing our program and we couldn't ask for a better golfer or person to carry on the tradition of excellence here."
Osborn is joined by Jacksonville State's Daniel Willett, Vanderbilt's Luke List, Matt Cook of Western Carolina, Shawn Hall of Charleston Southern and Tennessee Tech's Scott Stallings, who also made the at-large entries to the regional tournament. The field also includes powerhouses Georgia, UCLA, UNLV, Georgia State and North Carolina, which represent the top five seeds in the East.
The championships will be conducted May 31-June 3 at Crosswater Golf Club at Sunriver Resort in Sunriver, Oregon. The University of the Portland is the host institution for this year's championships.
Three regional tournaments, encompassing the current nine regions, will be conducted May 18-20. A total of 27 teams and six individuals not on selected teams were assigned to each regional site. Ten teams and two individuals not on advancing teams will move on from each regional to the championship finals.
Conference USA members Tulsa, SMU and Houston made the field as team entries. Houston is in the West Regional while Tulsa and SMU will compete in the Central Region.
