BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- UAB junior men's golf standout Garrett Osborn has withdrawn from next week's NCAA Men's Golf Regional tournament because of his ailing right wrist. Osborn was selected as an at-large individual participant in the NCAA East Regional, one of three feeder events for the 2006 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championships.
Osborn battled soreness in his wrist throughout the 2005-06 season. The injury dates back to the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate Tournament in early October.
Osborn is a two-time All-Conference USA honoree who set new UAB records with an 18-hole round of 62 and 54-hole round of 197, ironically at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate this season. He reached a Golfweek/Sagarin rating of as high as No. 2 nationally at the end of the fall season. He is currently rated No. 30 nationally by the publication's power rankings.
The Mountain Brook High School product and Birmingham native is expected to miss 1-2 months of action. Osborn will return for his senior season for Alan Kaufman's club in 2006-07.
Fellow Conference USA golfer and UCF senior Sonny Nimkhum will replace Osborn in the regional tournament May 18-20 in Orlando, Fla.
