McSwain Named To Coaches All-Conference USA First-Team

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- Senior defensive end Larry McSwain heads a list of seven UAB players named Tuesday to Coaches All-Conference USA football teams, the league announced Tuesday. The teams announced Tuesday were chosen by the conference's 12 head coaches.
McSwain, who also was tabbed a first-team all-conference choice in 2004 and 2005, was named to the Media All-Conference USA first team last week.
McSwain wasn't the only Blazer named to the Coaches All-Conference USA team Tuesday. Senior offensive tackle Julius Wilson and senior linebacker Orlandus King were selected to the second team.
UAB had three players tabbed to the all-conference third team as sophomore linebacker Joe Henderson, junior safety Will Dunbar and senior kick returner Marculus Elliott were tabbed to the unit.
The conference also announced its Coaches All-Freshman Team and UAB center Jake Seitz, who started all 12 games for the Blazers this fall, was among those named to the list. Rashad Slaughter, a true freshman was named to the league's All-Freshman team as both a wide receiver and a punt returner.
McSwain, a Mobile, Ala. product who transferred to UAB from Jackson State, finished his senior season with 39 tackles, including 9.5 tackles for loss and six sacks. In his three-year Blazer career, McSwain recorded 148 tackles with 32.5 tackles for loss and 23 sacks.
Wilson, a three-year starter for UAB on the offensive line from Bradenton, Fla., added the 2006 postseason honor to his first-team preseason selection. King was also named to the second team despite missing five games due to injury. He finished the season with 28 tackles, including five tackles for loss and two sacks.
Henderson, a Birmingham native, made a significant impact on the Blazer defense as he finished the year as the team's No. 3 tackler (63 stops). Henderson also had 8.5 tackles for loss and a sack. Dunbar, an Atlanta product in his first season as a regular in the UAB secondary, was the Blazers' leading tackler with 65 tackles. He also tied for the team lead in interceptions with three.
Elliott, from Cantonment, Fla., enjoyed an outstanding senior season returning kicks. He averaged 23.6 yards per return to rank No. 4 in Conference USA. He also rushed for 312 yards and 6.1 yards per carry average from the running back position.
Seitz, from nearby Vestavia Hills, took over the starting center duties this season after the departure of three-year starter and all-conference performer Matt Batusic. Slaughter made his mark in his first season at UAB, catching 16 passes for 113 yards. He caught 10 passes, a season-best for the Blazers' in the contest at SMU.
C-USA will announce the coaches' selections for Offensive, Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Year, as well as the Freshman of the Year and Coach of the Year on Wednesday.
