UAB Continues Homestand with Louisiana-Monroe on Friday

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB women's basketball team will continue its streak of home games on Friday, November 17 when it faces the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks in a non-conference matchup. The Blazers (0-2) and the Warhawks (1-1) will tip off at 7 p.m. in Bartow Arena.
UAB is still searching first its first victory of the season after dropping a pair of close games to Florida State and Ole Miss. Senior Carmen Guzman is leading the Blazer effort, averaging 27.5 ppg and setting a new career-high of 33 points against Ole Miss. Junior Diamond Rogers is putting up 12.0 ppg and a team-high 6.5 rebounds per contest.
The Warhawks have split their two games to begin the year, winning the season-opener over McNeese State, 71-53, then dropping their first road game of the year at Arkansas, 62-54. LaJeanna Howard is pacing ULM with 11.5 ppg and 6.0 rpg.
Friday's ballgame will mark the second meeting between UAB and Louisiana-Monroe. The one-and-only prior meeting was during the 2005-06 season when ULM inched past the Blazers, 70-68. Crystal McFadden was UAB's leading scorer in that game with 16 points, followed by Guzman with 12. ULM's Aishie Banks tallied 20 points for the Warhawks, while April O'Neal nabbed 10 points.
At Friday's game, UAB Athletics will be recognizing National Hunger & Homeless Awareness Week. Donations of canned food will be accepted on behalf of the Old Firehouse Shelter. A donation of two canned food items will get you one ticket into the game for a discounted price of $1.00.
