Blazers Host Ole Miss in Home Opener Tuesday

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB women's basketball team will open up its 2006-07 home schedule on Tuesday, November 14 when it hosts SEC opponent Ole Miss in a non-conference showdown. The Blazers (0-1) and the Lady Rebels (1-0) will tip-off at 7 p.m. in Bartow Arena.
UAB played its season opening game on November 12 at Florida State. The Blazers fell to the Seminoles, 93-77, despite holding a one-point lead over FSU at the half.
Senior Carmen Guzman led a trio of Blazers in double-digits with 22 points on 8-of-19 shooting. Sophomore Britney Jones tallied 14 points and three assists, while freshman Fatiha Salaam nabbed 14 points, five rebounds and one assist in her first collegiate basketball game.
Ole Miss faced Southeastern Louisiana in its season opener on November 10. The Lady Rebels grabbed a 92-46 victory at home over SE Louisiana to begin the year 1-0.
Armintie Price led Ole Miss with 24 points, while Shawn Goff added a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Jada Mincy also had double figure rebounds with 11 boards and five points.
Tuesday's contest will mark the 10th meeting between the two schools on the hardwood, with Ole Miss leading the all-time series 6-3. The Lady Rebels gained a 71-52 victory over UAB in the last meeting on December 3, 2005.
