Blazers Prepare to Battle with UCF in Conference Tournament

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB women's soccer team begins its "second season" on Wednesday, November 1. That is the day that the Blazers take on the UCF Golden Knights in the first round of the 2006 Conference USA Women's Soccer Tournament in Dallas, Texas. That match is schedule for 5:30 p.m. at Westcott Field on the campus of SMU.
After finishing the regular-season with an overall record of 6-11 and a league mark of 4-5, UAB received a seventh seed in the conference tournament. The Golden Knights earned the number two seed with a 2006 record of 11-5-2, including a 7-1-1 record in conference play.
UAB and UCF met one time during the regular season, clashing on October 8 in Orlando, Fla. The Golden Knights earned the victory over the Blazers, 2-0, while out-shooting UAB 17-11.
Host-school SMU gained the number one seed in the tournament by posting an 8-1 conference record and winning the Conference USA regular-season championship.
All first-round games will be held on Wednesday, with the semi-final matchups happening on Friday, November 3. The conference championship game will be played on Sunday, November 5 at 3 p.m. and will be aired on CSTV.
