Blazers Host Memphis Friday in Regular-Season Finale

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB women's soccer team will close out its 2006 regular season schedule on Friday, October 27 when it hosts the Memphis Tigers in a Conference USA matchup. The two squads will square-off beginning at 7 p.m. at West Campus Field.
The Blazers are currently posting an overall record of 6-10 and an even mark of 4-4 in league games. Memphis is standing at 9-6-2 overall and 5-2-1 in conference matches.
Friday evening will mark the 12th meeting between UAB and Memphis on the soccer field. In the all-time series, the Blazers hold the advantage 8-3. The last meeting between the two schools was in 2005, which ended in a Memphis victory 1-0 in Memphis, Tenn.
As the season is coming to a close, the race is on to make the 2006 Conference USA Women's Soccer Tournament on November 1-4 in Dallas, Texas. With eight teams earning a trip to Dallas, both UAB and Memphis are sitting in the top eight prior to the final game of the season. The Blazers are currently in the sixth position while Memphis is holding down the third spot in the conference.
Since Friday will mark the last home game of the 2006 season, it will also serve as Senior Night for the UAB Blazers. Senior members Leigh Burton, Katie Forbis, Philo Mbong, Julie McFarlane, Laura Richards and Jennifer Williams will be honored prior to the start of the match, as they prepare to play the final game of their collegiate career at West Campus Field.
