BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- The UAB football team spent just over 90 minutes on the practice field here Wednesday, continuing its preparations for next Tuesday's Conference USA game against SMU in Dallas.
The contest will with the Mustangs on Halloween Night will kick off at 6:30 p.m. and be televised nationally by ESPN 2.
UAB head coach Watson Brown gave his players a couple days off following last Saturday's 31-24 loss to Marshall. The Blazers (3-5, 2-2) are presently tied for second place in the league's East Division and hoping to turn things around to make a run down the stretch this season."
"We've had two good practices," said Brown. "We're frustrated and disappointed (after losing the past two games). The only way you can correct that is to practice hard and try to get a win. Our kids have done a good job with that."
One bit of good news for the Blazers is that it appears that most of their players who have out or limited because of injuries in recent weeks will return to action against SMU (4-4, 2-2).
In fact, the only two players Brown anticipates to miss the contest vs. the Mustangs are wide receiver Steven Brown (hamstring) and linebacker Stanley Lykes (ankle).
"We think that all but two are going to play," said Brown. "Steven will be out and Stanley Lykes will be out, but everybody else should play. We'll be the healthiest that we've been since the Georgia game."
