BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB football team was forced indoors on Thursday due to steady rains in the area. However, the Blazers were able to continue their preparations for their game against Marshall on Saturday at Legion Field at 6 p.m.
UAB is currently 3-4 (2-1 C-USA) on the year will be taking on a Marshall team that has played to a 1-5 (0-2 C-USA), however UAB head coach Watson Brown is sure that the Thundering Herd's record does not reflect the skill-level of the team.
"Don't look at their record," Brown said. "Marshall has played West Virginia, Tennessee and Kansas State. They have also lost two close games in the conference late in the game. They are very physical - it's the same bunch it was last year. We know what we are in for after losing on a last second field goal to them last year."
Last season, UAB lost, 20-19, in Huntington, W. Va., despite a 115 yard rushing performance from Dan Burks.
Brown said fan support will be key to UAB's performance on Saturday and encourages all Blazer fans to head out to Legion Field on Saturday for the 6 p.m. kickoff.
"We need our fans to get out there and get behind our guys," Brown said. "We're going to need a great atmosphere."
UAB and Marshall kickoff their Conference USA matchup at 6 p.m., and can be heard on the Blazers ISP Sports Network, beginning with the pregame show at 4:30 p.m. CST. Birmingham listeners can follow all the action on WYDE 101.1 FM, as well as WIQR 1410 AM in Montgomery.
