BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB football team resumed its work on the practice field Wednesday afternoon, going 21 five-minute periods in preparation for its upcoming game versus Marshall on Saturday. The Blazers practiced in shoulder pads and shorts during Wednesday's session as they continued to put in game plans for the Thundering Herd.
UAB continues to battle through injuries this week, as it has many times this season. Yet, UAB head coach Watson Brown feels that his team has the depth and determination to fight past the nagging injuries and does not feel the need to change the system because of a few players that are out.
"You can't change what you do," said Brown. "You just can't do that. You can't change your whole system in a week. These guys can all run the same plays. They have been running the same plays all season."
Brown is welcoming the return of multiple players this week with open arms. Offensive linemen Julius Wilson and Tommie Keys will return to the gridiron after missing games due to injuries.
"I think both Julius and Tommie are going to play," said Brown. "They both practiced again today. It will be good to have them back on their field with us."
The Blazers are coming off a heart-breaking loss at Rice, while Marshall lost its last game at SMU, 31-21. UAB is posting a 3-4 overall record and a 2-1 mark in conference games. The Thundering Herd has a record of 1-5 overall and 0-2 in league play.
UAB and Marshall kickoff their Conference USA matchup at 6 p.m., and can be heard on the Blazers ISP Sports Network, beginning with the pregame show at 4:30 p.m. CST. Birmingham listeners can follow all the action on WYDE 101.1 FM, as well as WIQR 1410 AM in Montgomery.
