Dear Fellow Former UAB Baseball Players,
Five more pounds, ten less hairs on our heads, and another year farther away from those wonderful springtime days on the Southside of Birmingham. Even though it's only once a year that we gather to relive our heyday, the smell of freshly cut grass, the perfect symmetry of a newly dragged infield, and the popping of catcher's mitts in the bullpen still evoke a world of memories.
It's time to get together again and relive those memories with the annual UAB Alumni Baseball Game. Our yearly event has been moved back to a day game to accommodate the Blazer football team's homecoming game on October 8. We will play at 1 p.m. on that Saturday at Jerry D. Young Memorial Field, giving us all plenty of time to clean up and make it out to Legion Field that night to watch the Blazers take on SMU for homecoming.
We've had great participation the past few years, but there's always room for more! Please help by contacting any of your former teammates and let them know about the game, and encourage them to attend. While we anticipate a weekend of fun, we can't do it without you! We need your participation both on the field and on the phone. If you know of the whereabouts of any of your old teammates, or you would like to help us track down former players by making phone calls, please let us know as soon as you can by either calling me at 205-821-7447, or e-mailing me at smithereen@charter.net. If you know anyone who is interested in participating that didn't receive the registration forms, please check the UAB athletic website for copies to fill out.
Thanks in advance for your participation, and we hope to see you there! Even if you can't attend the game, please reply with the attached form no later than October 1 so we can plan accordingly.
