UAB Announces Promotions In Athletics Department

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- Several departmental staff members have been promoted in the UAB Athletics Department, according to an announcement Thursday by Blazers' Director of Athletics Watson Brown.
In making the announcement, Brown said that long-time administrator Roz Ervin, who has served as Associate Athletics Director and Senior Woman Administrator the past eight years, has been promoted to Senior Associate Athletics Director. She will continue her duties as Senior Woman Administrator.
Ervin is in her 22nd year in the UAB athletics department and has held several positions during that time. She was Assistant AD from 1995-97 and prior to that, was athletics ticket manager form 1990-95. Ervin is a graduate of UAB.
Also promoted were Judy Sackfield from Assistant AD for Academic Affairs to Associate AD for Academic Affairs, as well as Norm Reilly from Assistant AD for Media Relations to Associate AD for Media Relations.
In addition, the following individuals were named Assistant Athletics Directors: Reid Adair, from Director of Facilities and Operations; Tony Dollison, from Academic Advisor and Director of Tutorial Services; Mike Jones, from Head Athletic Trainer; and Katie O'Brien, from Assistant Director of Media Relations. All four will continue their duties in their same areas of the department's operation.
Sackfield is in her 14th year at UAB and her seventh directing the Academic Center for Athletics (AC4A). She oversees the daily operation of the AC4A and is responsible for UAB's NCAA CHAMPS Life Skills program. Prior to taking the position in academics, Sackfield served as head volleyball coach at UAB from 1992-98.
Reilly is beginning his fourth year at UAB, joining the program in April of 2002. With nearly 25 years experience in the collegiate media relations field, he served 15 years on the staff at the University of Georgia as an associate SID and was Assistant AD for Media Relations at East Carolina for nearly six years. Reilly is a graduate of Georgia.
Adair is in his 15th year as a member of the UAB athletics staff and his second overseeing the facilities and operations area of the department. He has also served in the media relations department and the academic services area during his time with the Blazers' program. Dollison, a former member of the UAB football team now in his fifth year with the program, has worked in the academic services area during his entire tenure as a staff member. Dollison is a graduate of UAB.
Jones is also in his fourth year as a full-time staff member at UAB and his third heading up the football training operation. Jones is a 1996 graduate of UAB and was among the first scholarship class in the history of UAB football.
O'Brien, an LSU graduate, is in her fourth year at UAB, having served as Assistant Media Relations Director during that time. Prior to joining the Blazers' athletics staff, she worked two years at ESPN and before as an assistant at the University of New Mexico.
