PENSACOLA, Fla. - UAB senior men's golfer Clark Brown shot rounds of 69 and 68 to take low qualifier status Tuesday at the U.S. Amateur Qualifying tournament held at Marcus Pointe Golf Club. The scores give Brown, a native of nearby Navarre, Fla., entry in the 105th U.S. Amateur Championships Aug. 22-28 at Merion Golf Club in Ardmore, Pa.
"Clark is one of those golfers we have that will sneak up on you," UAB head coach Alan Kaufman said. "He shot very well and was the low golfer at that sectional, which is quite an accomplishment for him. We're proud of his qualifier and keeping our finger's crossed for him to play well next month in the Amateur."
Brown tied for 11th at the Conference USA Championships in April. He has been in UAB's top five rotation in each of his three previous years for the Blazers.
Garrett Osborn, the other UAB golfer participating in U.S. Amateur qualifying in Pensacola, missed the qualifying spots by three strokes.
