AUSTIN, Texas --- UAB completed competition at the 78th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, hosted by the University of Texas on Friday with several strong performances.
The 4x400-meter relay team of freshman Shauntel Jennings, seniors Adrienne Duke and Elace Minnifield and freshman Tara Colvin ran the second fastest time in school history with a 3:42.45, finishing third in their heat and 17th overall out of 50 relay teams. The UAB foursome was .45 seconds off an NCAA Regional Championships qualifying mark and .17 seconds off the school record set earlier this season.
Sophomore Erin Harris finished third in her triple jump flight. Harris' mark of 12.22 meters was good enough to send her to the finals where she managed eighth-place finish overall out of 22 athletes.
Senior Judy Shepherd finished fourth in her 100-meter hurdles preliminary heat. Shepherd ran a personal record time of 14.05, which put her 22 out of 68 athletes overall. Her time did not qualify her for the finals. The event saw eleven regional qualifying times.
Sophomore Stephanie McCauley ran a 12:35 in the 100-meter dash, which had 14 NCAA Regional Championship qualifiers. McCauley's time did not advance her to the finals.
"Overall it was a good meet," said Stanfield. "There were a lot of good teams and a lot of really impressive performances. I saw a lot of good things from our girls."
UAB did have to scratch two relays as sophomore Genoah Collins was not able to run in the meet, forcing UAB to pull out of both the 4x800-meter run on Thursday and the sprint medley relay on Friday.
The Blazers will have the full team competing next week when they return to action.
