UAB Drops Finale At South Florida, 11-2

TAMPA, Fla.-- TAMPA, Fla.-- South Florida defeated UAB, 11-2 on Sunday afternoon at Red McEwen field to win the series against the Blazers. UAB is now 23-13, 8-7 in Conference USA while the Bulls improve to 22-19, 9-5 in league play.
Grant Addison lasted just one third of an inning and falls to 0-2 for the Blazers while Yuri HIggins earned the victory for South Florida, improving to 2-1.
The Bulls jumped out to an early lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning. Jeff Baisley started the scoring with an RBI single up the middle scoring Tim Orlosky who had doubled to lead off the inning. Nick Cardieri then drew a bases-loaded walk to plate Bryan Hierlmeier with the game's second run. After Addison was lifted from the game after recording just one out, Adam Price came in from the bullpen and got the Blazers out of a bases-loaded jam, striking out Brandin Daniel and Dexter Butler to retire the side.
UAB responded with a run in the top of the second. Seth Rollin battled back from a two-strike count to draw a one-out walk, then scored when J.R. Bond ripped a double to the left field wall.
South Florida loaded the bases in the bottom of the second after a double, walk and hit batter. Jeff Baisley then hit the first pitch he saw from Price over the left field wall for a grand slam, giving the Bulls a 6-1 lead.
The Blazers and Bulls traded runs in the fifth inning. Zac Ward scored for UAB on a bases loaded balk and USF got an RBI single by Joey Angelberger in the bottom half of the inning, making the score
UAB returns to action on Wednesday when it travels to Samford for a 6 p.m. matchup.
