UAB Women's Basketball Heads To C-USA Tournament As No. 10 Seed

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- The UAB women's basketball team heads to Charlotte, N.C., to participate in the 2005 Conference USA Women's Basketball Tournament on March 3-6. UAB, the No. 10 seed, will take on seventh-seeded Marquette this Thursday, at 8:30 p.m. (ET) in the Dale F. Halton Arena. The Blazers and Golden Eagles met earlier this season, with Marquette winning, 65-48, in Milwaukee, Wisc., on Jan. 30.
The Blazers are currently being led by Carmen Guzman's 13.6 points and Domaneice Moore's 7.5 rebounds per game. Freshman LaKitha has come on strong of late, tallying four straight double-digit performances, including an 11 points, 11 rebound game against USF on Saturday. Additionally, Crystal McFadden is contributing 13.0 points a contest. Head coach Audra Smith is making her first appearance at the Conference USA Tournament, in just her first year at UAB.
Marquette is coming off a 77-56 loss at DePaul on Sunday. The Golden Eagles are being led by Christina Quaye's 15.5 points and 7.0 rebounds per game. Additionally, Carolyn Kieger contributes 12.0 points a contest. The Golden Eagles hit 44.1 percent from the floor and 33.1 from beyond the arc, en route to averaging 66.8 points a game. Marquette only allows its opponents 60.4 points per contest.
UAB has a 5-8 overall record in C-USA Tournament action since 1996. The last time UAB appeared in the tournament, the Blazers fell to Memphis, 64-54, in the first round of 2004 action. UAB has a 3-3 record in first round games at the tournament. The Blazers have never entered the tournament as the No. 10 seed.
