BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The UAB baseball team welcomes Tennessee Tech to town this weekend for a three-game series at Young Memorial Field. Friday's opener is scheduled for 6 p.m. with UAB's Adam Price (1-1, 4.34 ERA) taking the mound against Blake Forst (0-0, 9.53 ERA) of the Golden Eagles. Jeff Brown (1-1, 6.75 ERA) will make the start for UAB on Saturday at 2 p.m. with Randy Mills (1-0, 3.29 ERA) getting the ball in Sunday's series finale at 1 p.m.
UAB has dominated the all-time series against Tennessee Tech, winning 19 of the 24 matchups between the teams. The last time the Blazers and Golden Eagles got together on the diamond, UAB swept a doubleheader on March 4, 2001 in Birmingham.
The Blazers (8-5) are riding a modest, two-game winning streak into the weekend after a win against Troy on Tuesday. Four UAB pitchers combined to strike out a season-high 14 Troy batters as the Blazers held on for a 5-3 victory over the Trojans.
UAB freshman Heath Tapscott picked up his first career victory after allowing just one run on five hits and striking out seven in 5.1 innings. Eric Roberts finished off the Trojans with two scoreless innings to notch his second save in as many games. Seth Rollin and Ben McCullars led the way offensively for the Blazers, collecting two hits apiece.
The Blazers are paced offensively by freshman Clint Toomey who leads the team with a .385 batting average. Second baseman Seth Rollin and rightfielder Cole Helms each have three home runs, leading the team.
Tennessee Tech (3-8) has lost three straight, including two losses to nationally-ranked Georgia this week. The Bulldogs handled the Golden Eagles 12-2 on Tuesday before taking a 5-2 victory on Wednesday.
