Cole Helms- .400 (6-for-15), 2B, 3B, 2 HR, 7 RBIs
• Senior outfielder/pitcher homered in the first and last game of the week against Alabama and Ball State. Helms leads the Blazers with 2 home runs and 10 runs batted in on the season.
Clint Toomey- .417 (5-for-12), 6 R, 6 BB, SB
• Freshman centerfielder started all four games in the leadoff spot and recorded a .611 on-base percentage last week. He has seven walks and just one strike out in five games played this year.
Pitcher of the Week
Ryan Huffman- 1 Win, 5.2 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 6 K's
•Blazer senior pitched 3.1 innings of scoreless relief to get the win against Alabama on Thursday, then struck out four batters in just 2.1 innings of work against Ball State in game two of Saturday's doubleheader. Huffman has allowed just four hits and no walks in 9.2 innings this season. Opponents are batting just .125 against him.
News and Notes
• Victory over Alabama was UAB's first since the 2001 season and snapped a six-game losing streak against the Crimson Tide.
• Ball State's three-game sweep of UAB marked the first time the Blazers have been swept in a three-game series by a non-conference opponent since the 1995 season when Middle Tennessee took three consecutive games from the Blazers.
• UAB and LSU have not met on the diamond since the 1994 season when the Tigers swept a three-game series from the Blazers in Baton Rouge, La. The only other time the teams got together, UAB took a 14-8 victory over LSU on March 17, 1982 in Baton Rouge.
• The Blazers have committed just five errors in their seven games this season while UAB opponents have 16 defensive miscues. Four of the Blazer errors came in Saturday's doubleheader loss to Ball State.
