OXFORD, Miss. --- The UAB women's basketball team failed to score a field goal for the first eight minutes of action and allowed Ole Miss to start the game on a 22-4 run, as the Blazers fell to the Lady Rebels, 71-52, here Saturday afternoon.
UAB (1-4) tallied season-lows of 17 points and five field goals in the first 20 minutes of action. Additionally, the Blazers turned the ball over 15 times in the first half and finished with a season-high of 27 miscues.
The Blazers improved in the second half, hitting 12-of-27 and 44.4 percent from the floor. UAB and Ole Miss played to a 35-35 tie in the final 20 minutes of action.
"I was extremely proud of how my kids played in the second half," said UAB head coach Audra Smith. "We're a young team and I just told them to battle. I have to commend Carol Ross and this Ole Miss squad. They're a great ball club. I just told my kids to hang around and battle. Our goal in the second half was just to battle and play hard and I'm proud of them for doing that. Had we not gotten ourselves in such a big hole in the first half, this might have been a different game."
Sophomore LaKitha Murray led UAB with 13 points, tying her career high. Crystal McFadden added 12, while Christon Ingram had a team-best seven rebounds.
Ole Miss (6-1) had three players score in double digits with Armintie Price leading the way with 16 points and four steals. Ashley Awkward and Ashley Johnson added 12 each.
The Blazers return to Bartow Arena to host Alabama on Tuesday, Dec. 6 at 7 p.m.
