UAB Women's Basketball Hosts Blazer Invitational

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- The UAB women's basketball team welcomes Alabama A&M, Middle Tennessee and Penn State to Bartow Arena for the Blazer Invitational on Dec. 18-19. Middle Tennessee and Penn State face each other on Sunday at 6 p.m., followed by Alabama A&M and UAB at 8 p.m. The consolation and championship games will be on Monday at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.
The Blazers return to the court after taking an extended break from competition for final exams. UAB hasn't played since a 70-62 win over Alabama behind Crystal McFadden's career-high 31 points on Dec. 6 in Bartow Arena. With the win the Blazers improved to 2-4 on the season. UAB is hitting 41.9 percent of its shots from the floor, while averaging 62.7 points per game.
Alabama A&M improved to 3-3 overall with a 67-62 overtime win over South Carolina State on Tuesday. Fourteen different players have scored for the Bulldogs this season, with Tamisha Augustin's 7.8 points per game leading the way. Kaysha Williamson is pulling down 5.7 rebounds a contest. Alabama A&M is a perfect 3-0 at home, but has lost all three games on the road this year.
Middle Tennessee moved to 5-3 on the season after beating Georgia State, 69-51, on Dec. 8. The Blue Raiders, who average 70.4 points per game, have three players averaging double-digits, with Chrissy Givens' 21.6 points per contest leading the way. Givens also leads Middle Tennessee with 8.3 rebounds a game.
Penn State is 4-4 overall, but fell to Marquette, 73-63, at home on Dec. 9. The Lady Lions also have three players averaging double-digits, as Kamel Gissendanner leads the way with 16.3 points a game. Amanda Brown is also having an impressive season, tallying 15.3 points and a team-high 7.6 rebounds per contest.
