BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Few fall campaigns have been as fruitful for UAB's men's golf program than the one registered in 2005. Alan Kaufman's club recorded one tournament win, three third place finishes and had an individual medalist in two out of the team's five tournaments.
The Blazers upset 11 ranked foes en route to their early season finish at the Western Carolina Invitational, a tournament they won by 18 strokes. UAB recorded a new team record score for a 54-hole tournament by shooting an impressive 842 at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate in early October. The Blazers' 570 for 36-holes at the WCU Intercollegiate tied the second-best mark in school history as well.
Individually, Garrett Osborn overwhelmed college golf in the fall, winning two tournaments, including the prestigious Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate. His performance included new UAB records for 18- (62) and 54-holes (197). Osborn was rated as high as the No. 2 individual nationally by the Golfweek/Sagarin ratings.
Senior Clark Brown notched one top-10 finish for the fall and recorded a new career-low for 18-holes with a 66 at the Pate. Sophomore Kaylor Timmons was solid in his five tournaments, registering two top-10 finishes for the fall, both coming in the final two outings.
Freshmen Josh Thompson and Zack Sucher, the only other Blazers to see the course in the fall season, also turned in impressive performances. Thompson hit UAB's first hole-in-one since Graeme McDowell in the WCU Intercollegiate's first round. Sucher went sub-70 with a career-low 69 in the Jerry Pate National Collegiate.
