BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - UAB and South Carolina clash at West Campus Field at 1 p.m. CT Sunday afternoon in a pivotal Conference USA match up. The Blazers and Gamecocks are tied for third in the league standings with four points each. The Blazers were dominant in Friday night's 4-0 win over East Carolina. Jason McLaughlin scored a pair of goals to lead UAB as the Blazers snapped a four match winless streak.
South Carolina battled defending C-USA champion Memphis to a 2-2 tie Friday in Memphis. The Gamecocks had a 2-1 lead until the 88th minute of play. Ralph Pace and Ryan Leeton scored for the Gamecocks. The tie snapped a five-match win streak for USC (4-5-1).
Sunday's meeting will be the fourth all-time between UAB and South Carolina. The Gamecocks lead the series, 2-1, but the Blazers took the last meeting - a 3-2 overtime thriller in a 2001 NCAA Tournament contest played in Columbia, S.C.
After USC, the Blazers finish their three game home stand with a rematch of last year's C-USA title game when defending league champion Memphis comes to West Campus Field Saturday, Oct. 15 at 7 p.m. CT. UAB had a 2-0 lead on the Tigers in last year's C-USA Tournament final before succumbing to three second half Memphis goals.
