BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- The UAB women's soccer team travels to Marshall Friday night and East Carolina Sunday in it's first Conference USA road trip of the season. The Blazers are currently ranked third in the C-USA standings after tying previously undefeated UTEP, 3-3, last weekend and beating Tulane, 3-2, last weekend. UAB is 5-5-1 this year despite having lost to four nationally-ranked opponents.
"Each week of the season it's our goal to improve as individuals and as a team," said UAB head coach Paul Harbin. "In order to do that, it's important that we push outside the comfort zone. That is definitely what we've done this week. It's great to now get out on the road where we can all focus our energy on continuing our preparation to compete against a very well-coached Marshall team."
Friday's game against Marshall will be the second all-time meeting between the two schools. UAB won the only meeting during the 1998 season in Birmingham, 2-1. Marshall joined C-USA this year after playing in the Mid-American Conference last year.
The Thundering Herd dropped a 2-0 decision to Rice Sunday and fell to Houston Friday, 2-1, in the opening weekend of C-USA action.
UAB and East Carolina are scheduled to play at 1 p.m. CT Sunday at Bunting Field in Greenville, N.C. ECU leads the overall series 1-0 after beating UAB in 2002. Sunday will be the second time UAB has played in Greenville.
The Pirates are 1-1-0 in C-USA after defeating Houston Sunday. ECU will host Memphis Friday night in preparation for Sunday's match with the Blazers.
After this weekend, UAB will travel to Memphis on Oct. 14 to face the Tigers at 7 p.m. The next home match for the Blazers will be on Oct. 21 against Southern Miss starting at 4:00 p.m. at West Campus Field.
