BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- UAB sophomore Sally Palmer was named to the Soccerbuzz.com Elite Team of the Week for her performance last weekend against previously undefeated UTEP and Tulane. In two matches she recorded 10 points including a hat trick in the 3-3 tie with the Miners. Against Tulane Sunday, Palmer scored twice including the game-winner in the 83rd minute helping UAB come-from-behind for the 3-2 victory.
"Sally has become one of the top forwards in Conference USA," said UAB head coach Paul Harbin. "This past weekend's performance shows how dangerous she can be. It's great to see her being recognized amongst the top players in the country."
This week, Palmer has also been named Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week. During her freshman year Palmer had two goals and nine points after playing in 18 games. To this point this season she has six goals and 13 points in just 11 games.
The award goes to the top-11 players in the country for their performance during each week. Palmer is the second Blazer to be named to the Soccerbuzz.com Elite Team of the Week. Junior goalkeeper Katie Forbis was named to the team on Sept. 21 after she had a combined 26 saves in two matches against top-ranked North Carolina and No. 7 Duke.
UAB continues C-USA action this weekend on the road against Marshall Friday night and East Carolina Sunday.
