UAB Women's Soccer Drops Final Regular Season Match

TULSA, Okla. --- The UAB women's soccer team fell to Tulsa Sunday afternoon, 2-0, in the final regular season match. The Blazers take an 8-9-1 overall record and 4-3-1 conference mark into the Conference USA Tournament next week. However, Tulsa was edged by Houston for the final spot in the tournament but ended the year with a 9-9-2 record and 4-5 in C-USA.
UAB had six shots in the first half with a great scoring opportunity in the ninth minute. UAB Freshman Caitlin Marple tried to put the Blazers ahead but her shot hit the post. The Blazers would have two great chances in the 12th and 16th minutes but both ended without a goal.
Tulsa freshman Jennifer Kacergis led the way for the Golden Hurricane with a goal and an assist. In the 18th minute, Kacergis scored the game-winner and her eighth goal of the year. She was also credited with an assist in the 46th minute on Carrie Schnarre's goal. Schnarre's goal was blocked by UAB goalkeeper Katie Forbis but the ball bounced off the post and into the net.
The Blazers offensively were led by freshman Nadine Liverpool and sophomore Jill Porto. Liverpool had five shots in the game with two on goal. Porto had four shots in the match. Defensively, Forbis played 90 minutes and had three saves. In 18 games, she has 115 saves. In C-USA, Forbis has collected 58 saves and has a .795 saves percentage.
UAB out-shot Tulsa, 11-4, in the second half. The Blazers took 10 shots in the final 30 minutes but could not find the net. UAB out shot the Golden Hurricane, 17-16, in the match with both teams taking five shots on goal.
UAB will compete in the 2005 Conference USA Tournament in Houston on Nov. 2-6 for an opportunity to advance to the NCAA Tournament.
