BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- UAB sophomore Sally Palmer has been named Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week for her performance last weekend against previously undefeated UTEP and Tulane. Palmer finished the weekend with five goals, including a hat trick in the first half of the C-USA season-opener match against UTEP.
"Five goals in a weekend is an amazing feat," said UAB head coach Paul Harbin. "When Sally plays with passion, she is difficult to stop. I am very excited to see our goal scorers coming alive as we start conference play."
The Tyler, Texas native also scored two key second-half goals in the Blazers' come-from-behind 3-2 victory over Tulane Sunday. She netted the game-winner against the Green Wave in the 83rd minute of play and now leads the Blazers in scoring with six goals and 13 points this season.
Palmer is the third Blazer to receive a C-USA Player of the Week award this year. Juniors Katie Forbis and Philo Mbong both earned C-USA Defensive Player of the Week honors earlier this season. UAB has won more Conference USA weekly awards this season than ever before, with four weeks remaining in the regular season.
UAB will continue Conference USA action this weekend when they travel to Marshall Friday to face the Thundering Herd at 4:30 p.m. and East Carolina Sunday starting at 1 p.m.
