TULSA, Okla.-- The UAB volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to Tulsa Sunday afternoon at the Reynolds Center, marking the Blazers' first back-to-back losses this season. SMU edged out UAB, 3-2, Friday in Dallas after the Blazers knocked off Rice Thursday afternoon. The Golden Hurricane (20-3, 7-2 C-USA) picks up its fifth straight victory while UAB falls to 13-6, 4-5 in league play.
Isabel Oquendo and Casey Dent each posted 10 kills for the Blazers, and Nicole Bowland led the way with 18 digs. Shaniquwa Cooper also contributed seven block assists in the losing effort. Tulsa's Kassiana Urnau led all players with 14 kills in the contest.
All three games were closely contested in the match. The Golden Hurricane opened with a 30-26, game-one victory before taking complete control with a 30-27 win in game two. Tulsa would finish off the match, putting the Blazers away with another 30-26 win in game three.
UAB hit just .160 as a team in the match, compared to .203 for the Golden Hurricane. Despite outblocking Tulsa, 10.5 to 8, the Blazers could not match Tulsa's proficiency at the service line. UAB posted seven service aces compared to 10 for the Golden Hurricane.
