CHICAGO --- Crystal McFadden led all scorers with 26 points, but it was not enough, as DePaul defeated the UAB women's basketball team, 85-52, at the DePaul Athletic Center on Friday night.
McFadden hit 8-of-14 from the floor and 8-of-9 from the charity stripe in 29 minutes of play. Lauren Brittingham came off the bench to add 10 for the Blazers.
The Blue Demons, who are currently ranked 17th in the country, had five players score in double digits. The Blue Demons were led by Caprice Smith's 19 points. Khara Smith added 16 points, 14 rebounds and five steals. Erin Carney had 12, while Jenna Rubino and Jenni Dant added 11 each.
UAB (5-15, 2-5) was outsized by the Blue Demons, as DePaul out rebounded the Blazers, 45-28, including a 16-9 offensive board difference.
The Blazers hit 32.7 percent of their shots, but only managed six field goals in the second half. UAB did hit 16-of-24 from the free-throw line, including 12-of-20 in the final 20 minutes.
DePaul (16-3, 5-1) jumped out to a 45-27 halftime lead behind an impressive 52.8 shooting percentage. DePaul forced 22 Blazer turnovers and tallied 12 steals on the night.
The Blazer travel to Milwaukee, Wisc., to face Marquette on Sunday at 2 p.m., in the Al McGuire Center.
