FORT WORTH, Texas - Second baseman Seth Rollin went 3-for-4 with a two-run homer and three RBI in helping lead UAB to a 10-2 victory over TCU in Conference USA baseball action Sunday afternoon at Lupton Stadium.
The Blazers took two games out of the three-game series as UAB also won the Saturday contest 20-10. UAB has now won six of its last seven road contests, including five of six in C-USA on the road.
"Any time you win a series on the road, it's huge," said UAB head coach Larry Giangrosso. "TCU is one of the best teams in the conference. They have only lost one series at home. We are playing pretty well. We are proud of our guys. This is not an easy place to play."
UAB (24-23, 10-13 C-USA) got out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the second inning. Third baseman Zac Ward doubled to left center field, allowing right fielder Cole Helms and left fielder Jeremy Moran to score the Blazers' first runs of the inning. Catcher Eugene Rodriguez later singled to left field, scoring Ward and center fielder Levi Patmon.
The Blazers added two runs in the top of the third inning on Rollin's two-run home run to left field. UAB led 6-0.
UAB took a 7-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning when Helms doubled down the left field line, scoring designated hitter Nathan McCorkle.
TCU (29-19, 15-9 C-USA) got on the board in the bottom of the fourth on a pair of bases-loaded walks. Blazer starter Grant Addison walked shortstop German Duran, allowing third baseman Shelby Ford to score the Horned Frogs' first run of the inning. Eric Roberts then came on in relief of Addison and walked center fielder J.J. Estrada, bringing in left fielder Chad Huffman.
UAB added two runs in the top of the sixth inning. McCorkle doubled to right field, allowing Rodriguez to score the Blazers' first run of the inning. Helms followed with a sacrifice fly to center field that scored first baseman Daniel Hill. UAB led 9-2.
The Blazers took a 10-2 lead in the top of the eighth inning when Rollin collected his third RBI of the game, singling to left field and scoring McCorkle.
Roberts (4-2) picked up the win for UAB after working three and two-thirds shut-out innings and allowing five hits. He walked one and struck out four. Addison pitched three and one-third hitless innings, giving up two runs. He walked three and struck out three.
Horned Frog starter Chase Perry (0-1) took the loss for TCU after pitching one and two-thirds innings and allowing four runs, only one of which was earned, on two hits. He walked two and struck out two.
The Blazers lost the Friday game 5-4.
UAB next travels to Jacksonville, Ala. Tuesday to face in-state foe Jacksonville State at 6:30 p.m.
The Blazers then return home to Young Memorial Field to host the final home series of the season as UAB will meet USF in a three-game C-USA set Friday-Sunday. Friday's game begins at 7 p.m., Saturday's game is at 2 p.m. and Sunday's first pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
