Blazers To Face Southern Miss In C-USA Semifinal

HOUSTON, Texas - UAB will face third-seeded Southern Miss (42-16) Saturday at 9 a.m. in semifinal action at the Conference USA Baseball Tournament at Cougar Field on the University of Houston campus.
No. 7-seed UAB (30-27) defeated Memphis 7-6 Thursday in second-round play to advance to the semifinal round.
Southern Miss shut out sixth-seeded Memphis 13-0 in seven innings in an elimination game Friday afternoon.
A UAB win would put the Blazers in the championship game, which will be played Sunday at 1 p.m.
The championship game will be televised by affiliates of the Conference USA Television Network and CSTV: College Sports Television. Comcast/Charter Sports Southeast will carry the telecast live. The tournament champion receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Championship.
All of UAB's games at the C-USA Tournament will be broadcast live via the world wide web on the Blazers' official athletics website, www.uabsports.com. Air time is for Saturday's game against Southern Miss is approximately 8:45 a.m.

If UAB were to lose to Southern Miss Saturday morning, the teams would meet in an elimination game Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m.
The Golden Eagles are ranked 23rd in both the Sports Weekly/ESPN Top 25 Coaches' Poll and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association poll. Southern Miss lost its first round game of the tournament 10-5 to Memphis.
UAB will be making its third appearance in the semifinal game of the Conference USA Tournament since joining the league during the 1995-96 season. The Blazers made appearances in the semifinal game in 2000 and 1997.
The Blazers have won 11 of their last 14 road contests, including nine of 11 against C-USA opponents on the road. UAB has also won six of its last eight games overall.
On the other side of the bracket, Houston (30-27), the four/five seed, is also undefeated in tournament play, posting wins over No. 4/5-seed TCU 9-5 Wednesday and top-seeded East Carolina 6-5 Thursday.
Houston will await the winner of the TCU-East Carolina matchup, which will be played Friday at 6:30 p.m. The Cougars will meet either the Pirates or the Horned Frogs at 12:30 p.m. Saturday.
A Houston win puts the Cougars in the championship game. If the Cougars lose the 12:30 p.m. game, the team will play in an elimination game Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
