CINCINNATI, Ohio - Left fielder Jeremy Moran went 2-for-4 with four RBI, a double and two runs scored in helping lead UAB to a 12-6 win over Cincinnati in Conference USA baseball action Friday evening at UC Baseball Stadium on the Bearcat campus.
With the win, UAB (28-26, 13-15 C-USA) clinched a spot in the Conference USA Tournament, which will be held May 26-30 in Houston, Texas.
The Blazers have now won nine of their last 11 road contests, including seven of eight in C-USA play on the road.
Blazer starter Adam Price (6-5) picked up the win for UAB after working eight innings and allowing two runs, only one of which was earned, on nine hits. He walked two and struck out four.
"We are getting guys to hit throughout the lineup," said UAB head coach Larry Giangrosso. "We are seeing the ball really well right now. It really helps us that guys are swinging the bat well right now.
"I thought Adam (Price) pitched really well tonight. He battled real hard."
Cincinnati starter Chase Lampl (1-5) took the loss for the Bearcats after pitching two and a third innings and allowing seven runs on eight hits. He walked two and struck out two.
UAB took a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Designated hitter Nathan McCorkle singled to left field, allowing shortstop Josh Miljavac to score the Blazers' first run of the inning. Moran later doubled to right center field, bringing in first baseman Daniel Hill, McCorkle and right fielder Cole Helms.
The Blazers added a run in the top of the second inning as McCorkle collected his second RBI of the contest, singling up the middle and scoring Rodriguez. UAB led 5-0.
Center fielder Aaron Moll answered for the Bearcats in the bottom second inning with a solo home run to left field.
UAB plated two runs in the top of the third inning. Third baseman Zac Ward doubled down the left field line, allowing Moran to score the Blazers' first run of the inning. Center fielder Levi Patmon followed with a single to right center field, scoring Ward.
The Blazers added three more runs in the top of the fourth inning off three consecutive hit batters. With the bases loaded, Bearcat reliever Josh Kay hit second baseman Seth Rollin, bringing in McCorkle. Ward was then hit by a pitch, allowing Helms to score. Patmon was hit next, allowing Moran to score. UAB led 10-1.
Cincinnati (14-40, 5-24 C-USA) plated a run in the bottom of the fifth inning when Moll doubled to left center field, scoring right fielder Brian Beltz.
UAB added two runs in the top of the seventh inning. With the bases loaded, Moran reached first on a fielder's choice, allowing Hill to score the Blazers' first run of the inning from third base. Second baseman Seth Rollin followed with a single through the left side, allowing McCorkle to score his third run of the game.
The Bearcats pushed across four runs in the bottom of the ninth inning after batting around. Moll collected his third RBI of the contest when he singled to left field, allowing first baseman Jack Nelson to score UC's first run of the inning. Designated hitter Brian Dill later singled to left field, bringing in catcher Steve Pickerell. Left fielder Matt Ogden followed with a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Moll. Second baseman Mark Muscenti then singled up the middle, scoring shortstop Drew Saylor.
UAB will try for a series sweep as the teams conclude the three-game set Saturday at 1 p.m. (ET).
