Hill Named C-USA Co-Hitter Of The Week

CHICAGO - Daniel Hill has been named the Conference USA Co-Hitter of the Week, the league office announced Monday. Hill had a career week for UAB, hitting .421 (8-for-19) with three home runs, three doubles, 10 RBI, four runs scored, 20 total bases, a 1.053 slugging percentage and a .476 on-base percentage. The senior first baseman from Pleasant Grove, Ala. recorded a hit and an RBI in each of the Blazers' four games during the week. In addition, Hill had three multiple-hit games and two multiple-RBI games on the week.
Hill helped lead the Blazers to two victories over seventh-ranked Tulane last weekend at Young Memorial Field. He went 2-for-5 with two home runs (a three-run homer and a two-run homer) and tied a career-high with five RBI in UAB's 11-3 upset of Tulane last Saturday. He was 1-for-3 with a home run, two runs scored and a stolen base in UAB's 6-5 win over Tulane last Sunday. Against Alabama Wednesday at the Hoover Met, Hill went 3-for-5 with an RBI double and a two-RBI double.
Hill currently leads the team in hits (39), triples (2), home runs (6), RBI (27), total bases (70) and putouts (333). He is tied for the team lead in multiple-hit games (12), multiple-RBI games (6), games started (35) and at bats (135). Hill leads C-USA in putouts and is tied for 10th in the league in triples. Against C-USA opponents, Hill ranks second in the league in putouts (120) and is tied for 12th in stolen bases (2). He has started every game of his UAB career, making 85 consecutive starts at first base for the Blazers. He is currently enjoying a six-game hitting streak.
Hill shares the honor with East Carolina's Jamie Paige. Paige hit .588 (10-for-17), including eight runs scored, to lead the Pirates to a series sweep at Cincinnati. In last Saturday's 32-14 victory over the Bearcats, the senior outfielder from Greenville, N.C. set school and conference records for hits (7) and doubles (4) in a single game. For the week, Paige posted a .632 on-base percentage and an .824 slugging percentage.
Hill becomes the second Blazer this season to receive C-USA Hitter of the Week honors as senior outfielder Sam Clark was named Hitter of the Week Feb. 23.
UAB takes on in-state foe Alabama State Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Young Memorial Field.
