UAB's VanLeeuwen Captures Seminole Intercollegiate In Playoff

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. ----- UAB sophomore Tigh VanLeeuwen won a one-hole playoff over the College of Charleston's Kellen Altman to capture the individual title here Tuesday at the Seminole Intercollegiate.
In winning his first collegiate tournament, VanLeeuwen fired a final round 72 and then defeated Altman in a playoff for medalist honors. The Australia native's performance helped lead the Blazers to a fourth-place finish in the 12-team final standings.
VanLeeuwen claimed the individual crown with his birdie on the 10th hole at the Golden Eagle Country Club while Altman finished with a par.
Georgia State, which had three players finish among the top eight individually, won the team championship with a three-round score of 884. UCF was second at 889, followed by Vanderbilt (892), UAB (897) and Ole Miss (905). The host school, Florida State, finished sixth with a score of 906. The Blazers carded a final round score of 302 after opening rounds of 299 and 296.
UAB junior Chris Cousins was again among the top tournament finishers, as he placed 13th in the individual standings at 224. The Blazers' Ryan Thomas was 24th at 229 with teammates Clark Brown in 27th (230) and Garrett Osborn 53rd (243).
Three players tied for third place in the individual standings, including a pair from team champion Georgia State. Kasper Jorgensen of Georgia State, his teammate Jonathan Fricke and Vanderbilt's Luke List all shot 217 over three rounds with Jorgensen and List tying for final round scoring honors at 1-under par 71.
UAB's next tournament action will be March 12-14 at the Conrad Rehling Invitational in Brookwood.
