Sam Clark Named C-USA Co-Hitter Of The Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - UAB outfielder Sam Clark has been named the Conference USA Co-Hitter of the Week, the league office announced Monday. The senior from Jacksonville, Ala. hit .500 (7-for-14) with six runs scored, a team-leading two home runs, a double, a team-leading eight RBI, three stolen bases, a 1.000 slugging percentage and a .556 on-base percentage in helping lead UAB to a perfect 4-0 record for the week.
Clark went 2-for-6 with a home run and delivered the game-winning RBI double in the bottom of the 12th inning in UAB's 6-5 victory over Murray State last Sunday. He went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a stolen base in UAB's 10-5 win over Murray State last Saturday. He was 3-for-4 with a three-run homer and two stolen bases in UAB's 8-0 shutout of Alabama State last Tuesday. In addition, Clark scored two runs and had an RBI in UAB's 15-8 win over Murray State last Friday.
Clark shared the honor with junior shortstop Matt Shepherd of Southern Miss who hit .727 (8-for-11) as the Golden Eagles lead-off hitter, posting an on-base percentage of .813 in a three-game sweep of Northwestern (La.) State. He had two doubles, one triple and two RBI, while scoring eight times.
UAB is off to a 4-0 start and is coming off a three-game sweep of Murray State last weekend at Young Memorial Field. UAB carried over a three-game winning streak from last season and has now upped that number to seven. The Blazers also own a seven-game home winning streak in that stretch.
The Blazers host Birmingham-Southern (0-3) Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Young Memorial Field.
