UAB Falls At USF, 72-51

TAMPA, Fla. ----- The UAB women's basketball team was unable to handle USF's 40-point second half performance, as the Lady Blazers fell to the Bulls, 72-61, here Sunday afternoon. The loss was UAB's seventh consecutive Conference USA defeat, dropping the Lady Blazers to 7-17 overall and 1-10 in C-USA.
USF began the second half by outscoring the Lady Blazers, 23-6, over the first 11 minutes of play. UAB was outscored 40-20 in the final 20 minutes of action. UAB hit only 8-of-28 in the second stanza, shooting 28.6 percent from the floor.
The Lady Blazers were led by senior Natasha Thomas' 18 points and 11 rebounds, marking her team-best seventh double-double of the season. Freshman Crystal McFadden added 13 points to the cause.
USF (11-13, 4-7 C-USA) outscored the Lady Blazers 50-24 in the paint, and also had eight fast-break points compared to none by UAB. The Bulls outrebounded the Lady Blazers, 42-39, as well as tallying a 16-5 advantage in second-chance points. USF recorded 17 points off of UAB's 22 turnovers, which included 12 steals by the Bulls. Bench points was also a huge advantage for USF, as it had 23 points from subs, while UAB tallied just three from its bench.
The Bulls were led by Jessica Dixon's 19 points and six assists, both of which were game-highs. USF's Rachael Sheats and Sharon Cambridge each recorded 16 points. Ezria Parsons was the Bulls' leading rebounder with 10 on the afternoon.
The Lady Blazers drop to 0-10 on opponent's home courts.
UAB returns to Bartow Arena for its final three regular-season games. The Lady Blazers will host Tulane on Friday, Feb. 20, at 7 p.m., before facing Southern Miss on Sunday, Feb. 22, at 2 p.m.
