UAB Men's Golf Places Seventh At Tulane Invitational

NEW ORLEANS, La. --- The UAB men's golf team finished in seventh place here Tuesday at the Tulane Invitational at English Turn Golf and Country Club.
Junior Ryan Thomas (78-78-72) was the top individual finisher for the Blazers, finishing in a tie for ninth after shooting a 221 over three rounds. Fellow junior Chris Cousins (78-71-73) was close behind in 11th place for UAB, as he carded a 222. Tigh VanLeeuwen (76-73-82) and Kyle Sapp (75-77-79) each tied for 33rd overall, scoring a 231 each, while Jason Woyak (77-80-82) placed 45th for the Blazers carding a 239.
As a team, UAB shot a 904, 36 strokes behind tournament winner SMU's 868. Sixteenth-ranked Wake Forest placed second in the tournament, shooting a 870 as a team. The Demon Deacons' Bill Haas (68-67-69) won the event, carding a 204 in the three-round tournament. Fellow Conference USA school and tournament host Tulane finished in third with a 885. Southeastern Louisiana and Alabama rounded out the top five, tying for fourth with a 892 each. C-USA foe Southern Miss finished in eighth.
Next, the Blazers will compete in the Florida State Seminole Invitational on March 1-2 in Tallahassee, Fla.
