BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- The UAB football team had its final practice before a week off for final exams, but the Blazers were forced to practice inside due to inclement weather in the area. While UAB used the time to prepare for its upcoming game with Hawai'i, the Blazers also spent some time on conditioning.
"We got to work on Hawai'i some today, which is good," said UAB head coach Watson Brown. "We also got some good running in. I worry about our conditioning. The heat and the type of offense Hawai'i runs means we need to be in shape. We've run them more than we did during the season. We're trying to get them in the best shape possible."
The Blazers will play in the Sheraton Hawai'i Bowl where they will face Hawai'i on Christmas Eve in Honolulu, Hawai'i. UAB, who finished 7-4 and 5-3 in Conference USA play, looks for its third-consecutive win when it faces the Warriors at 2 p.m. (HST) at Aloha Stadium. The game will be televised nationally on ESPN.
Hawai'i is led by senior quarterback Timmy Chang who is the NCAA's all-time leading passer, throwing for 16,667 yards during his career. The Warriors are 7-5 overall and 4-4 in the Western Athletic Conference. Hawai'i was selected to participate in the bowl game after a 41-38 come-from-beyond victory over Michigan State on Dec. 4.
