HONOLULU - The UAB football team held its third practice here on Monday morning, as the Blazers took to the field in shorts for just under two hours. UAB will face Hawai'i on Dec. 24th at 2:00 p.m. HST in the Sheraton Hawai'i Bowl.
"Today was better," said UAB head coach Watson Brown. "We went a little shorter today and had a lighter day. We took the day off from pads."
UAB hasn't played a game since a Nov. 27th meeting against Southern Miss. However, the Blazers think the break works to their advantage.
"I think the layoff helps us in two ways," said Brown. "First, it helped us heal some injuries and secondly, whenever you play this style of offense, you want more time to prepare. We're in a passing league for sure, but we don't play an exclusive four-wide offense. We've had to spend some extra time on that."
Hawai'i is lead by quarterback Timmy Chang, who is the NCAA's all-time leading passer with over 16,000 yards passing in his career.
UAB will continue practice on Tuesday morning as they will take the field in pads and helmets.
The Sheraton Hawai'i Bowl will be televised by ESPN.
