UAB Comes Back to Defeat Louisiana Tech, 66-54

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Donell Taylor had 15 points and seven steals and Richard Jones added 10 points, leading UAB to a 66-54 victory over Louisiana Tech on Monday night.
UAB (2-0) trailed 34-31 at halftime, but the Blazers held Louisiana Tech to one field goal in the first 13 minutes of the second half.
Wayne Powell led Louisiana Tech (1-3) with 13 points and Donell Allick added 12. Paul Millsap, the Bulldogs standout 6-foot-8 forward, was held to 10 points - 17 below his average.
Powell hit a jumpshot on the Bulldogs' first position of the second half, and Louisiana Tech did not have another field goal until Powell scored inside with 6:26 left.
By then, UAB had a 58-45 lead on the strength of a 20-2 run, driven by a 3-pointers from Marvett McDonald and Derrick Broom.
UAB struggled against Louisiana Tech's zone defense in the first half, but the Blazers warmed up in the second half, hitting seven 3-pointers.
Millsap grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds to lead Louisiana Tech to a 44-29 advantage on the boards.
But UAB scored 30 points off the Bulldogs' 25 turnovers to offset Louisiana Tech's strength inside.
