BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - UAB head baseball coach Larry Giangrosso announced Wednesday the signing of four players who will join the Blazers for the 2006 season. Stephen Barnett, Kasey Croft, Torrey Croft and Ben Styes have signed National Letters of Intent to play at UAB.
Barnett is a six-foot, 175 pound right-handed pitcher from Holt High School in Tuscaloosa, Ala. Barnett will make the move to UAB from Bevil State Community College where he is coached by Joey May. He is the son of Eber and Bonnie Barnett.
Kasey Croft, a 6'1, 170 pound right-handed pitcher will transfer from Gadsden State Community College where he is coached by Bill Lockridge. He is the son of Kent and Angie Croft and attended Albertville High School in Albertville, Ala. where he was coached by Darrell Cooper.
Torrey Croft will join his brother at UAB after playing for Randy Putman at Wallace-Hanceville Community College. Croft, a 6'1, 190 pound catcher, also attended Albertville High School where he was coached by Jeff Simmons.
Styes will also come to UAB from Lockridge's Gadsden State Community College program. He is a 6'3, 185 pound right-handed pitcher and the son of Don and Julie Styes. Styes was coached by Jeff Mauldin at Clay-Chalkville High School.
"With our pitching staff this season being mostly upperclasmen, we decided to go out and find some junior college arms who can come in and help us right away," said Giangrosso. "We feel these guys can come in and make an impact in the conference immediately."
