UAB Volleyball Travels To USF For Friday Matchup

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB volleyball team heads to Tampa for a 7 p.m. match on Friday, October 22 against the USF Bulls. The Blazers (1-17, 0-6 C-USA) dropped three matches last week, including two C-USA contests against DePaul and Marquette. USF (4-12, 2-4 C-USA) fell in four games to Marquette last Friday before rebounding with a three-game sweep of DePaul Saturday in Tampa.
The Blazers are coming off 3-0 losses to Georgia State, Depaul and Marquette last week. At Georgia State on Tuesday, Cassi Ociesa led the way for the Blazers with 11 kills and four block assists. Isabel Oquendo and Charli Lindley each recorded ten kills while Jenna Link contributed with a match-high 40 assists.
Friday against conference opponent Depaul, the Blazers were led defensively by Brianna Galvin's 15 digs and offensively by Oquendo's nine kills. In Saturday's matchup with Marquette, Oquendo tallied 13 kills and a .462 hitting percentage while Galvin led all players with 15 digs.
Oquendo leads UAB with 144 kills while Galvin's 4.29 digs per game ranks fourth in the conference. The Bulls are led offensively by Flavia Silveira (223 kills) and setter Juliana Nogueira who averages 11.60 assists per game, good for sixth in the league.
