BIRMINGHAM, Ala.----- Two more players have signed national letters of intent to play basketball at UAB, according to an announcement by Lady Blazer head coach Jeannie Milling.
Carmen Guzman and Tracy Wright have become the second and third prospects from Murry Bergtraum High School in New York N.Y. They will join their teammate Crystal McFadden who signed with UAB during the early signing period in November.
Guzman, a 5-9 guard, was named City Player of the Year by Newsday and The Daily News after her senior year in which she helped lead Bergtraum to a 30-0 overall record, a second-straight state Federation title and a fifth-straight city championship. Guzman is a defensive specialist who averaged 12.3 points, five assists and three steals as a senior. She was a three-year starter for coach Ed Grezinsky and was named MVP of the New York State Championship game as a junior and as a senior.
Wright is a 6-2 forward who was Bergtraum's leading rebounder for three straight years. She was named honorable mention All-City by Newsday following her senior year. Wright averaged 11 points and 16 rebounds as a senior. She played an important role in helping Bergtraum finish the 2002-03 season ranked No. 1 in Student Sports Magazine's Fab 50 rankings.
The Lady Blazers have now signed three players, Guzman, Wright and Domaneice Moore (Huntsville, Ala.) during the current signing period. Brittany Smith (Long Island, N.Y.) and McFadden signed with the Lady Blazers last November during the early signing period.
