NEW ORLEANS - Outfielder Kyle Leon of the UAB baseball team was named Second-Team All-Conference USA, as announced Tuesday in New Orleans, site of the 2003 C-USA Baseball Tournament. Voting was done by a panel consisting of each head coach, each team's sports information director and a media representative from each city.
Leon led the team in home runs (14), RBI (57), total bases (116), slugging percentage (.607) and sacrifice flies (7) this season. The senior from Guelph, Ontario also is tied for the C-USA lead in sacrifice flies, ranks fifth in C-USA in home runs and RBI, sixth in slugging percentage and is tied for 10th in on-base percentage (.438).
The Blazers season concluded last weekend with a three-game sweep of Saint Louis at Young Memorial Field. UAB posted a 27-26 overall record and a 12-17 C-USA mark in 2003.
