Men's Golf Team Finishes Eighth At Border Olympics

LAREDO, Texas ----- The UAB men's golf team capped off one of its best showings of the season here Saturday as the Blazers finished eighth in the 52nd Border Olympics, hosted by Texas A&M University.
The Blazers recorded a score of 291, following their first rounds of 288 and 296, to finish 16 shots off the winning total of Texas A&M. The Aggies rallied from 16 shots down in Saturday's final round and then defeated Arkansas in a playoff to claim the team title. The Razorbacks were second (859), followed by San Diego State and Baylor (861) and Kansas State (869).
Twenty schools participated in the tournament held at the Laredo Country Club.
Individually, UAB's Tigh Van Leeuwen was the team's top finisher at 217, one-over par, to finish tied for 22nd. The Blazers' Chris Cousins and Nathan Turner tied for 28th place at 219, followed by Clark Brown (221) and Ryan Thomas (224).
Arkansas' Andrew Dahl won the individual title at 205, 11-under par, while Stephen Reed of Texas A&M and Ryan Baca of Baylor tied for second at 209.
